There are many methods of bleeding a hoseline that I see out there, from the “Pop Top”, to the “Sneeze,” to the “Good Try”. I have nicknamed these rapid-bale movements that discharge limited air and water from the nozzle. These bleeding techniques are used by firefighters who do not fully understand this very important last/first step in nozzle preparation and hoseline advancement. Using the “Full Flow” method will confirm stream shape, volume, and break over distance.
