"Tactical Safety: Swinging The Axe"

By thehousewatch | July 13, 2009

By: Ray McCormack

Forcible Entry, Ventilation, and Overhaul are the fireground operations where the axe often gets priority. Some axes are strictly for forcible entry; others ventilation; and any can perform overhaul. Always be mindful of a good stance or placement when swinging the axe; Make sure the area behind you is clear of your back swing; do not over extend yourself; let the tool do the work. One proper swing that delivers is better than ten that don’t. Learn how to maximize its use and you will develop a respect for it.
