Queens Apartment Blaze Injures Two Firefighters NY1 News 3/14/10
The New York City Fire Department is trying to determine the cause of a fire Saturday in Queens that injured two firefighters. The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. on the second floor of an apartment building on 164th Street and 89th Avenue. One firefighter suffered burns to his face and another fell down the stairs. "He slipped, and he had the tank of his back, and from what I was told, he couldn't feel his legs at the time, so they put the collar on him and put him on the board and he was like, not too responsive," said one tenant. "We saw the people coming out of the door and all this smoke was coming out, all this smoke was coming it out, so it was like the whole apartment just started once they opened that door, all the smoke just came in like crazy, came into our apartment, and the whole hallways was all smoked up. I couldn't even breathe," said another tenant. Three civilians were injured and several apartments were damaged.
