QUEENS (WPIX) - Five firefighters suffered minor injuries during a rescue of occupants of a Queens building early Wednesday morning.
The FDNY's Battalion 51 responded to 97-52 75th Street after a report of smoke in the building.
"Upon arrival a fire was located in the basement of the first floor in a vacant apartment with slight extension into the second floor, "Battalion Chief George Healy told Pix News.
Occupants of the building gathered on the fire escape and firefighters were able to remove them, added Healy.
The fire which did go to a second alarm was extinguished.
Emergency Medical Services transported five firefighters to the hospital with minor injuries, said Healy. "At this time we did notify our fire marshals to conduct and investigation. The cause of the fire is undetermined." said Healy.
