City Council Approves Fire Safety Bill
NY1 News 8/20/09
The City Council passed legislation Thursday aimed at preventing tragedies similar to the Deutsche Bank Fire.
The new fire safety law includes stricter rules for construction sites, but only applies to buildings that stand on city-owned land.
Under the legislation, daily
inspections of standpipes will be required to ensure that they
are working.
Back in 2007, firefighters Robert Beddia and Joseph Graffagnino
died after they could not get water out of a broken standpipe
inside the Deutsche Bank Building.
