Close Call For Worker At Harlem Construction Site

NY1 News 7/28/09

A construction worker sustained minor injuries Tuesday after an accident in Harlem.

It happened just after 8 a.m. at 126th Street and Lenox Avenue.

Fire officials on the scene say a worker was loading cinder blocks onto the roof at a construction site, and the weight of the blocks caused the floor to collapse.

The worker fell about one story through the hole.

"The person who was injured was lucky, he could have fell into the basement, he could have dropped 60 feet, he dropped 10 feet, so he was very lucky," said FDNY Chief Steve Deloughry.

The fire chief says the worker was taken to Harlem Hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery.
