Con Ed Substation Goes Up In Flames MyFoxNY 7/24/09
Flames and giant plumes of smoke have surrounded the Douglaston section of Queens. A Con Edison substation is on fire. Fire crews are managing to stop the flames from spreading to nearby homes along Northern Boulevard and 244th Street. The fire broke out at around 8 a.m. There are no reports of injuries. SkyFoxHD was over the flames on Friday morning. A Con Edison official says there are no reports of power outages. The FDNY is sending a hazardous materials unit to the fire. Northern Boulevard is closed in both directions through Douglaston. A substation transfers power to the surrounding homes and businesses.
