The Town of Huntington Fire Chief's Council recently presented their annual Scholarship Awards to students affiliated with the town fire and rescue services.

Council President Larry Cavanagh, pictured second from right, presented the scholarships to, from left, Erika Cartolano, Kelly Corrigan, Jack Italiano III, and Eaton's Neck FD 1st Assistant Chief Kevin O'Neill, right, accepting the award for his daughter, Kristin O'Neill. The four recipients were selected randomly from among 57 applicants.

Erika, the daughter of Eaton's Neck Fire Chief Joe Cartolano, is attending Suffolk Community College, where she is a biology major. Kelly, the daughter of Greenlawn Fire Captain Tom Corrigan, is attending SUNY Farmingdale, and is a communications major. Jack, the son of Huntington Manor firefighter Jack Italiano, Jr., is also attending SUNY Farmingdale and studying liberal arts. Kristin is attending the Fashion Institute of Technology where she is a fashion design major.

The four $500 scholarships are awarded annually in the memory of Dix Hills Chief Terry Farrell and Huntington Manor Chief Peter Nelson, both FDNY Rescue Company 4 firefighters who were killed in the line of duty on 9/11; Huntington Manor Ex-Chief and Commissioner Joe Lynch and Town of Huntington Supervisor's representative Billie Pastore.
