An activist group from Silver Lake is planning a benefit this weekend to protest the proposed elimination of FDNY Engine Co. 161 in South Beach.

Dominick DeRubbio, who heads the group UnreadyNY, is hosting a $5-a-head fundraising event Sunday at Danny Blaine's Bay Street Saloon, 1384 Bay St.

"We've already put out 6,000 door hangers in the South Beach area," said the 23-year-old Silver Lake resident. He also has distributed fliers and "No Bloomberg" bumper stickers, and has picketed in front of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's campaign headquarters on Hylan Boulevard.

"If they decide to close Engine 161 down, we're going to be out there every Sunday until November," he said.
