Seven firefighters sustained minor injuries in a blaze that engulfed a six-story building in the Chinatown area late Thursday.

The fire began about 9 p.m. in the building, at 117 East Broadway near Pike Street, and quickly spread through a grocery store on the ground floor and into the apartments above it, Fire Department officials said. The apartments were evacuated, and no residents were injured.

The building was still burning about 12:30 a.m. on Friday, but fire officials said they were close to extinguishing it.

Four firefighters were taken to Bellevue Hospital Center, and three others refused treatment at the scene, Fire Department officials said.
