FDNY Sketches Out Improvement Plans
Staten Island Advance 5/13/09
The Fire Department of New York is outlining new projects that aim to strengthen emergency response procedures, improve building inspections, and make the department more environmentally friendly.
The 2009-2010 Strategic Plan was issued Wednesday. Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta says among the initiatives are plans to improve survivability rates for fire victims who suffer cardiac arrest. The department is also developing a new process for conducting building inspections, using new technology that will improve firefighter safety.
As part of the mayor's green initiatives, the FDNY plans to use solar panels at some firehouses and recycle nearly 3 million gallons of water used weekly for training.
