Fire Forces Evacuation Of Bronx Building
NY1 News 1/28/09
Residents of a Bronx building were forced from their homes Tuesday night when a fire tore through their building.
The fire broke out
after 10 p.m. at 11-02 Jackson Avenue
near East 166th Street in Morrisania.
The Fire Department says it started on
the second floor of a three-story
building and spread to two adjacent
buildings.
Residents say they were able to get out of their homes before the fire spread.
"I smelled smoke in my apartment," said one local resident. "When I went to look out the window from my apartment, there was a lot of fire just coming out of a house two doors away from me."
One woman suffered burns on her hand and five firefighters were treated for minor injuries.
There is no word on what caused the fire.
