House Up In Smoke - Family Escapes From Burning Home

Family members were treated for smoke inhalation after a one-alarm fire damaged their Middle Village home early on Sunday morning, Jan. 25, Fire Department sources stated. Reportedly, the blaze broke out at around 2 a.m. at the one-story brick dwelling located on 61st Drive near 84th Street. According to the FDNY, the flames started in the basement of the residence and quickly spread to the first floor and roof. Members of Engine companies 287, 289, 291 and 319; Ladder companies 135, 136, 138 and 140; Squad companies 270 and 288; Rescue 4; and Battalions 28 and 46 responded to the scene under the direction of Division 14. Upon their arrival, it was noted, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames that had engulfed the building. Officers from the 104th Precinct and EMS units later arrived at the location to provide assistance. Several children and their parents living at the home were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation, said an FDNY spokesperson. Using three hose lines, it was reported, the blaze was brought under control at around 2:50 a.m. The cause of the fire is being investigated by FDNY marshals, Fire Department sources said. |
