3 Firefighters Suffer Minor Injuries In
Blaze in Staten Island's Stapleton Section
Staten Island Advance 1/13/09
Three firefighters suffered minor injuries in an all-hands fire in Staten Island's Stapleton neighborhood this morning.
Three occupants of the two-story, wooden house were not hurt in the blaze, which was reported at 6:37 a.m., according to an EMS captain on the scene.
It's unclear what started the fire, which began on the second floor of the 580 Van Duzer Street home. The Fire Department is currently investigating.
The FDNY quickly gained control over the fire and firefighters had searched the house for occupants by 7 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.
The blaze is the latest in a string of house fires on Staten Island in the last four days. Two brothers died in a fatal fire on Jewett Avenue in Port Richmond on Saturday morning, and an all-hands blaze damaged an apartment building at 141 St. Mark's Place in New Brighton Sunday night. And last night, seven people escaped their burning home in a West Brighton fire.
